Switch ProblemsJan 15, 2011
By BilgeRat I am a heavy user of flashlights at work, a good flashlight is essential to the job. I had originally purchased the Pelican on the strength of one of my helpers recommendation and by my experiences with Pelican cases, which has been uniformly superb. Almost everything about this flashlight is very good: the light system delivers a bright focused beam, battery life is superb, the case is durable to a degree that one can survive rolling around in oily water in the bilge of a towboat for two and a half months and still work when it was finally fished out(!), it's made in such a way that it does not roll easily when you set it down while using it, it fits perfectly in your hip pocket and it uses standard AA batteries. (I will only buy flashlights that use standard batteries that my employer provides.)
Which brings me to the problem area: THE SWITCH. My first StealthLite lasted about three or four months at work and then started to flicker when it was on, and I had to thump on it to get the light to stay on. Bending and cleaning the contact mechanism had no lasting effect, so I contacted Pelican about it. They were first rate about it and sent me a new light within a week. (All I was really expecting was help resolving the problem by myself.) Well, this one was flickering like an old, cheap flashlight within a month! I am now looking at another flashlight, something like a LED Lenser P7 with a real switch. In all fairness to Pelican, if they incorporate a heavy duty switch into the StealthLite instead of a bendable sheet metal one, I would definitely buy another. I do like everything about the light except the switch and, frankly, that's a holdover from $2.98 Wal-Mart flashlights. C'mon Pelican, I know you can do better!

The reviews of this flashlight are very accurate. This is a very good flashlight with great battery life and a very good beam. It's waterproof and bulletproof.
It does have one flaw that I find in about 20% of these where the on/off mechanism (AKA Switch) doesn't work well and the flashlight flickers or won't turn on. The incandescent version of this flashlight has the same problem. I contacted Pelican about this problem and was unimpressed by the attitude I got. They were not interested in discussing the product's problem or in trying to solve my problem.
In addition to the flashlight's obvious good points there is one that has not been mentioned. Because this flashlight is made from plastic and the body has a rectangular cross section as opposed to a round shape, this flashlight is easy to hold in your teeth.
Great Pelican LightJan 27, 2011
By D. Hamman This flashlight works great. I use it in my job everyday and have had mine for over a year. It is one of the most durable flashlight you can buy. The beam is super bright. I turn it on and off a hundred times per day and the switch still works perfect. In respect to the previous comment about flickering, I do not believe it is the switch. When the batteries are close to dead and cannot overcome the threshold voltage of the diode, the light will start to flicker. Change the batteries and you are good to go. Batteries last forever compared to a traditional non led light. These Pelican lights have been compared to other lights such as Mag lights and have proven to be far more durable. I drop mine, hit things with mine (purposely), get it wet, etc. and it still works great. (If you ever do have problems with the switch making up, you can just bend the contactor a little. We have done this with the old Pelicans and it works fine.)
